Defensive lineman Akiem Hicks has agreed to a two-year deal with the Chicago Bears, the team announced.
Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times reported on March 9 the Bears and Hicks were "working toward a possible face-to-face meeting."
Hicks could function well as a defensive end in coordinator Vic Fangio's 3-4 scheme. Chicago already has 2015 second-round pick Eddie Goldman at nose tackle, but perhaps the pair of him and Hicks could be interchangeable.
Although he was more of a situational interior pass-rusher, Hicks has good value and versatility. With little wear and tear on him and an enviable combination of size (6'5", 324 lbs) and athleticism, the Bears clearly see a good fit with their roster.
