Bronny James knows there will be people waiting for him to fail, but the new Los Angeles Lakers guard is ready for the challenge.

James spoke on the pressure he expects to face playing on the same team as his father, LeBron James, during his introductory press conference.

"It's for sure an amplified amount of pressure. I've already seen it on social media and stuff on the internet, talking about how I might not deserve an opportunity," James said Tuesday. "But I've been dealing with stuff like this my whole life, so it's nothing different. It's more amplified for sure, but we'll get through it."

The Lakers selected James with the No. 55 pick in the 2024 NBA draft, making him the first son of an active NBA player to be active at the same time as his father. Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium reported James received a guaranteed multiyear contract from the Lakers, an oddity for a player picked so late in the draft.

While Bronny James was a highly touted high school recruit, his lone season at USC left something to be desired. He averaged 4.8 points. 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 25 games after missing the first month of the season while recovering from heart surgery.

James went into cardiac arrest last July while practicing at USC and was subsequently found to have a congenital heart defect. The NBA cleared James to play before the league's scouting combine.

The answer to whether Bronny James deserves an NBA spot will be determined by his play. There is little question the influence of being LeBron James' son played a factor in him being selected in the draft. It's rare for a 36.6 percent shooter to find himself with guaranteed money upon his arrival.

One could surmise it's the cost of doing business with arguably the greatest player in NBA history, but Bronny will now have every opportunity to prove his worth on the floor.
